VCCC July 08 Photos

On July 9, 2008, I had entered three pictures into the competition for digital open and B&W print at the Ventura County Camera Club monthly. For my two pictures in digital open, one received a merit award (title: “Airplane Helicopter Stunt”). For my B&W print (title: “I’m so bored, when can we go?”), it received a merit award. The B&W print will also be entered into the Ventura County Fair photography competition this year along with two others.

Las Vegas Birthday Trip

The last weekend of March was my 37th birthday. I was invited to Las Vegas by my good buddy Paul who lives in Henderson. He wanted me to come out to take some pictures with him.

On the first day, we went to the Las Vegas Strip to get some pictures of the Bellagio water show. After the water show was over, we decided to go to the Valley of Fire just Northeast of Las Vegas about an hours drive. Along the way there is this truckers stop were they sell fireworks and just not the small ones. They have a dedicated site adjacent to the place to set off the fireworks.

When driving into the Valley of Fire at the west entrance, you will notice a some rocks that are really red in the hills. But after driving into the valley, you will see why they call it the Valley of Fire. We spent the afternoon at the Valley of Fire until sunset. I took a lot of great pictures, but not many worth posting.

On Sunday, we went to Lake Las Vegas to take a couple of pictures of the waterfalls. After that we went back to the Las Vegas Strip for a few hours before I came home. To see the pictures I took go to http://tinyurl.com/4dwu5.

Santa Susana Mountains Photowalk

Photowalking.org just announced a photowalking event in Simi Valley on March 15th. For more information, goto Photowalking.org. Here is a little excerpt from the announcement:

“we’re going to head to the western end of Ventura County, in Simi Valley, and shoot in and around Corriganville Park. The Santa Susana Mountains are a unique mountain range that is loaded with beautiful large rolling rock hills. I’ve shot it before, as you can see in the photo.”

Ventura Photowalk Wrap-up

Ventura’s photowalk had a beautiful afternoon. The sun was shinning with a few clouds in the sky. We had a great turn out with 28 photo walkers. We all met at the base of the Ventura Pier. We decided to take a group photo.

There were many different groups join our photowalk from Flickr, Zooomr, Betterphoto and the Ventura County Camera Club. After everyone got to know each other, we then walked down California St to the San Buenaventura City Hall. After the city hall, we walked down Main St. to the San Buenaventura Mission. We then walked down Figueroa St to Surfers Point. We ended the photo walk at the Ventura Pier for a great sunset and the start of a chilly evening with the wind kicking up and providing a little wind chill.

I would like to thank all that joined us on the Ventura Photowalk and really enjoyed talking to all.

The 2008 Challenge

Trevor Carpenter has annouced the 2008 Challenge. The 2008 Challenge is a year long challenge is that each participant will need to spend the whole year of 2008 documenting their community. Photowalk at Olvera St and Union Station

This past weekend on November 25, 2007, I met up with the Southern California Photowalking group at Olvera St in Los Angeles. We spent time walking up and down Olvera St taking pictures. We then stopped by the first fire station in Los Angeles. After a short time looking around, we then headed to Union Station and took some wonderful pictures.

Santa Barbara Trip

Last Sunday my wife, Carrie, and I went to Santa Barbara for a day of picture taking. In the late morning early afternoon, we went to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History to take pictures of the “2007 Butterflies Alive!” exhibit. This exhibit was awsome and a lot better than the LA Natural History Museum’s Butterfly exhibit. Late afternoon, we met up with a couple other photo friends to do a photo walk. We found out about this photo walk through a member of the Ventura County Camera Club. We started out at the Santa Barbara Court House and then walked by the El Presisio of Santa Barbara and ended up at the Warf. Along the way, we stopped and took a lot of pictres, which are post on the sites mentioned above. Carrie and I had a lot of fun and do recommend it to any one looking to meet new friends and enjoys taken photos. The website for this photo walk is photowalking.org.
