Carpinteria Harbor Seals

17 February, 2008 (10:35) | Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, SantaBarbara, Seals, ventura | By: Leigh

Just this past week, I was up in Carpinteria off The Bluffs and came across The Sea Rookery. The Harbor Seals that are there were having pups (babies). I just missed a birth of a seal by an hour. When I talked to one of the volunteer’s, they said this will be happening for the next few weeks.

If you go, you will need to take a long lens as you are up about 50 ft and there is no way to get down at their level and they are protected at ground level to about 750 ft.

Directions: The easiest thing to do is take the 101 to the Bailard Avenue exit. Turn towards the ocean and go into the Bluffs parking lot. From here you can follow the footpath that leads to down to the bluff, over the railroad tracks then along the bluff top to the seal rookery overlook. It is about a half a mile walk.

Santa Barbara Trip

16 September, 2007 (00:00) | Santa Barbara, SantaBarbara, photowalk, photowalking | By: Leigh

Last Sunday my wife, Carrie, and I went to Santa Barbara for a day of picture taking. In the late morning early afternoon, we went to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History to take pictures of the “2007 Butterflies Alive!” exhibit. This exhibit was awsome and a lot better than the LA Natural History Museum’s Butterfly exhibit. The pictures have been posted on my Google Picasa site at http://picasaweb.google.com/acejr371 and Carrie’s are at http://picasaweb.google.com/carriepix.

Late afternoon, we met up with a couple other photo friends to do a photo walk. We found out about this photo walk through a member of the Ventura County Camera Club. We started out at the Santa Barbara Court House and then walked by the El Presisio of Santa Barbara and ended up at the Warf. Along the way, we stopped and took a lot of pictres, which are post on the sites mentioned above. Carrie and I had a lot of fun and do recommend it to any one looking to meet new friends and enjoys taken photos. The website for this photo walk is photowalking.org.
